QHS brings the stories of Queens and Kings (leaders) of ancient Egypt and neighboring Kush into the classroom via EGYPT DAY AT THE PYRAMID and ROYAL COURT, its companion reading/literacy program.

  • FIRST  ~ Teachers, via professional development share the stories on the Kings and Queens and their positive contributions in class, using the Language Arts to access subjects across the core curriculum.
  • SECOND ~ Students complete the selection and a standard-based lesson.
  • THIRD ~ They travel to a local university by bus during school to study under the guidance of Jali Adisa (the African Storyteller) and his regal cast of 50-75 student performers.  Storybook figures of African Queens and Kings and their contributions are brought to life through QUEENS OF THE NILE, NOW and a music score donated by Stevie Wonder, entitled Journey through the Secret Life of Plants.
  • FINALLY ~ A college tours lets the students explore how higher education in the arts, math and science can aid them as future leaders and contributors to our society.
